Product Description
General Information
Lexotan contains the active ingredient bromazepam. Bromazepam belongs to the class of mediations known as benzodiazepines. Bromazepam is used for anxiety, tension or agitation. It works to reduce anxiety by affecting certain substances in the brain called neurotransmitters.
How to use
The recommended starting dose of bromazepam for adults ranges from 6 mg to 18 mg daily, in divided doses. Your doctor may have you gradually increase the dose, based on how well it works and the side effects you experience. Generally, the maximum adult dose of bromazepam is 30 mg daily in divided doses. To avoid excessive sedation or motor impairment, it is important that the dose be adjusted to a person's specific needs. In general, seniors are more sensitive to benzodiazepines and usually require lower doses. It is important that this medication be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible and continue with your regular schedule. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. If you are not sure what to do after missing a dose, contact your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
Precautions
Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: kidney disease, liver disease, muscle problems (myasthenia gravis), history of chemical or alcohol dependence, depression, any allergies you may have. Limit alcohol intake because it may increase the drowsiness and dizziness caused by this medication. Because this medication may make you drowsy/dizzy, use caution performing task requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. The elderly may be more sensitive to the effects of this medication. Use cautiously. This medication is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Consult your doctor before using this medication. Bromazepam may be excreted into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Missed Dose
Try to take each dose at the scheduled time. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.
Side Effects
Drowsiness, dizziness, or loss of coordination may occur. Dry mouth, headache or stomach upset rarely occurs. If any of these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: rapid/pounding or irregular heartbeat, changes in vision, slurred speech, confusion, depression, behavior changes. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Drug Interactions
Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use, especially of: anti- seizure medication, antidepressants, certain antihistamines (e.g., diphenhydramine), narcotic pain relievers, sleeping pills, tranquilizers. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
Storage
Store this medication at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children.
